Anthea Oestreicher - Multidisciplinary Designer and Artistic Researcher

Anthea Oestreicher (PhD candidate at ZHdK Zürich, CH, and UFG Linz, AUT) is a multidisciplinary designer and artistic researcher. With a diploma in Visual Communication (h_da Darmstadt, 2017) and an M.A. in Design & Future Making (HS Pforzheim, 2022), she understands design as a tool to explore the intricate entanglements between systems and living beings. Navigating the thresholds of art, science, and the humanities, her work centres on plankton—both within and beyond the bounds of scientific inquiry.

Her research demonstrates how artistic and design methodologies can reveal and critically intervene in complex ecological interactions. Through participatory experiences, video works, craft-based practices, and creative writing, she contributes to a deepened understanding of the sympoeitic relationships that shape the planet. Drawing on these approaches and sensory attunement, she develops ways of wit(h)nessing and vegetalizing perception to engage with these vital interconnections.

At YAS25, Anthea will present for the first time her latest video collage: Who knows the ocean?
