YAS Activities

Young Algaeneers Talks

For this edition of YAS, young algaeneers will take the stage to deliver oral presentations in a unique and engaging format that sets us apart from traditional conferences. The presentations will be organized into five dynamic sessions:

  1. Cultivation
  2. Processing
  3. Physiology and Genetic Engineering
  4. Applications
  5. Sustainability

Each session, lasting 1 hour, will feature six presenters delivering concise 5-minute talks. The presentations will run consecutively for the first 30 minutes, followed by a 30-minute interactive roundtable discussion. This discussion will encourage open dialogue between the audience and the speakers, fostering collaboration, knowledge exchange, and deeper engagement with the topics presented.

Please note: naturally, we will not be able to fit everyone in the talks (which is unfortunate) so we will establish an external scientific committee for abstract evaluation.

Working Groups

We are excited to have the Working Groups activity returning at YAS25! This is an excellent opportunity for participants to engage deeply with their peers and contribute with new ideas. These collaborative sessions are designed to bring together participants from diverse backgrounds to discuss challenges, share ideas, and co-develop innovative solutions in the field of algae research and technology. Participants will be sorted into groups based on algae topics of interest with the aim of promoting a feasible concept or solution. Each group will be mentored by a senior and follow a standard ideation approach. On the last day of the conference, each group will present their key insights and innovative solution(s).
