The Basque Microalgae Culture Collection (BMCC) maintains a repository of over 700 strains of marine and freshwater microalgae and cyanobacteria, predominantly sourced from the Basque Country. Established in 2020, BMCC is registered with the World Federation for Culture Collections (WFCC) and is affiliated with both the Spanish Network of Microorganisms (REDESMI) and the European Culture Collections Organization (ECCO).

The collection's origins trace back to surveys on haptophytes, with subsequent expansions to include various phytoplankton groups such as cryptophytes, dinoflagellates, chlorophytes, diatoms, and cyanobacteria.
